Hey guys,
i have a 4.1L Carby motor and im getting a ported head or a cam or maybe both...
I was wondering what would give more of a power increase, the mildly ported head or the EFI cam (with new lifters etc)
Current mods to the car is are a Racing Inlet Manifold and Sports Exhaust (Extractors soon!)

well I would cam personally as you will not have to remove the head and do head gasket etc, so cheaper and easier to start with, generally head work gains nothing without a cam, so its like chikcen and egg.

I think you will gain more from the cam in the short term.

I would agree, the standard cam does not take full advantage of the standard head, so a cam would give the best increase alone.

Bear in mind that if you get the head ported in the future you would probably want more than an EFI spec cam to take full advantage of it, might be worth holding off on doing anything until you have the funds and motivation to get both done at the same time and save yourself some money in the long run.

a bowl job will give consistent power increase across the rev range
cam will too, but typically more so in the mid to higher end of the rev range (does a 250 really have a high end of the rev range though )

get a late 87 xf efi head (best) and give that a bowl job with maybe a slight port to both exhaust and intake ports. also get it faced.

but yeh i agree they go hand in hand powerwise
either will give a good power gain by themselves but when put together will give an excellent gain

yes 250s do have a high end of the rev range..... 7000 + infact ones u turf the shitty rocker gear in the bin, and piss of the short rods with 200 long rods...

i would def go cam as the head in standard form isnt to bad at all..
but i wouldnt bother just going efi cam, as long as the duration is keeped under 215 @ 0.050 it wont lump really at all

be careful with the efi cam as it doesnt have the ability to run a mechanical fuel pump.

all efi grinds now days have the efi lobe on em any way.... ive fitted a mechanical fuel pump to an efi block before... and it worker it had the lobe on it... but being 20 years old who knows what has happend
