whats the easiest way to replace a oil pump in a ford xf 250 x flow 4.1litre 6cyl.

You will need to drop the sump quite a bit to get the pump out, which means you
would need to lift the engine off the mounts to get enough clearance to drop the sump far enough.
Then you tend to drop parts in the sump and have to fish them out, it may be easier and quicker to pull the motor out.

Unfortunately, with the fords, it is not possible to get the sump off w/o removing the motor, as you also have to loosen the timing chain cover in order to replace the sump properly. It is much easier, simpler and quicker to remove the motor, in itself a relatively easy job.

Pull the motor out so you can then replace the leaking rear main seal and properly reseal the sump. Virtually all of them dribble out the rear main and 1/2 of them need a speedi sleeve.

you can it in situ , but its hard and takes about the same time to remove the motor , your choice , in situ is support the motor , undo mounts and lift the front then unbolt the sump wich gives enough room to reach in and unbolt the pump then the sump will come out . installation is the reverse and it all takes way to long...
remove the motor :_)
