Whats this noise

Gday

A funny rattling noise seems to be coming up most times I go through second gear, it sounds like something loose in the middle muffler but it's odd as it is only coming up going through second, not through any other gears at this rev range. It will only come up when I go through gears, not down them, and it last for about 3 seconds when exceleraring... not a gearbox issue hopefully???

Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers

Re: Whats this noise

Does it sound like its coming from the base of the gearstick?
I have the same problem, mine is the Bush at the base of the gear stick, needs replacing.

Re: Whats this noise

Yeah I wouldn't say it was coming from there, it doesn't actually make a lot of noise in the cabin.. It's more outside underneath but where and what I'm not sure...

Re: Whats this noise

It could also be a weld has come off on the Cat heat sheild, or you have a loose exaust bolt.

Re: Whats this noise

Another funny thing about it is that it only happens after the cars warmed up a bit...

Re: Whats this noise

I would say it could be the internals of the cat converter starting to break up, usually rattles whens its hot

Re: Whats this noise

Gutting the cat may change the sound, but you will more than likely loose performance.
