I have a 3.9l cfi ea falcon. I was wondering what engine i should put in it as the current one has seen better days(300k+).Should i get the current one recond as well as converting to mpfi or put another one in it. I have been given a quote to do the current one up(recond bit of head work ect) $2500.
I have heard of mongralEB's falcon with the au motor that costed him $1500 all up. I rung ford wreckers here in brisbane and the guy said he hadnt had any au motors at all. So they must be hard to get. the reason i ask is $2500 seems a bit steep to get the "old" motor done up compared to a good au for $1500.
So id like your suggestions as well as cost please!!

do a au setup if you want bang for buck,but im sure you can grab a 4.0ltr from a wreckers for 400 put it in shop to get head work and cam work for around 1500 so yeah your 2500 is steep..

au has alot more power then that CFI i would just throw it your car need MPFI or the Au motor for sure..

really $400 for a 4l falcon motor from wreckers??
is that gonna be in good nik or will it have to be recond too?? What good wreckers aorund brisbane might have some good motors?

There was a couple of 3.9L mfi motors in the qld trading post..like $500!
Mongrel eb's motor for $1500 is cheap for an AU motor!
You could put anything in it really...an el-au or whatever!
Is it your only car? WHy not do an v8 conversion into it? Or perhaps like an ef tickford 6 motor or something? Im sure they wouldnt be hard to put in!

have a shop around seen few 4.0 litre motors for sale in market place reasonably priced. $2500 sounds steep to me.proberly pickup good tickford motor for a $1000. I did cheers.

how easy is it to put a ef motor in the ea.
I could just use the 3.9mpfi ecu ???

'Shamus' and myself only recently fitted an EL XR6 motor and manifold to his EB falcon.
It goes great and the engine cost $1350.
The whole conversion did add up to a little more, but it was worth it.

Re-coing engines in an old car isn't worth it sometimes, unless you want to turn it into something special and go right over the whole car.
