Ok everyone,

Every time I drive my EL I am bothered by frigging lifter rattle. About 10,000kms ago I got a Wade 1004-112 cam installed, and there were monumental fvckups that resulted in me having to fork out for new lifters. They have been shimmed up by a mechanic I trust, and he said the rattle should quieten down after a little while.

IT HASN"T!!! and its pissing me off because I take great pride in my car and it sounds like a clapped out heap of crap! Honestly I would not get another regrind cam after this experience, and BTW that is not to slag off wade, its just the trouble I have had with this, compared to the easy install I had with a Billet in my old ED. The ED had 345,000 kms on it by the time I got rid of it, and never the slightest hint of rattle.

Yeah but that is just a temporary fix. I want it properly fixed! The way I see it, it worked before why the hell shouldn't it work now?

Pull it apart yourself and check there is shims in there and make sure they are the correct size.

how would I know what size they are though? The mechanic said that he had to use to or three on one lifter and it still didn't shim it up enough

You take them out and measure them.
Measure the base circle of the stock cam and the Modded cam.
and make sure that the shim is the same size as the differance.

penrite hpr 15 (15w/60 semi-synthetic) is very good for clearing up I6 rattling problems.
one engine builder/mechanic always uses it and it stops the tickin on just about every 4L he's serviced.

but im thinkin you want to fix it properly anyway, which would be the better option

Cheers everyone. Me and a mate are going to pull the rocker cover off and have a look at the bastard next weekend.

Yeah guys, I want a proper fix. Thanks for all your help. If the lifters are the correct size it shouldn't be rattling, correct? Is there any way that the oil may not be getting to all of them and this is what is causing the rattle? Could someone explain to me why a stocker doesn't rattle and why the shimmed lifters do? Do the stock I6 falcons have shims? Sorry guys I know very little of the guts of this besides the cam actuating the valve via a rocker arm...

stock falcons do have shims, 1.6mm or 1.9mm I believe
