just wondering if i put a 465cfm holley racing head and a stage 3 cam... the bottom end will go and would the standard acl rebuild kit handle the power or would i be better to buy the race series kit with the hi comp pistons? or i should i just put a 351 in? the only thing stopping me is ill havta upgrade the box and diff if i put a v8 in and get a new exhaust and headers and a larger raidiator

465 is a good carby, the bottom end will stand up quite well just dont rev is much passed 5500 rpm. make sure you have a nice 4bbl inlet manifold and extractors to suite.

hi, just wondering, obviously these are off a 250 crossflow motor.......did you notice any big gains having them on

yea itwas off teh all mighty XD actully i did notice big gains with the holley replacin gthe stromberg and the new style hi flow air cleaner as well

none of this answers your question directly, but may be of assistance.

I have had 2 250 powered cars, the first was an xc with the iron head crossflow. mods to this engine were only a shaved head redline manifold 350 holley and extractors. dynoed at 98rwhp, not much admittedly but a big improvement on standard. out of interest I also found splitfire plugs were worth the effort for their improvement in torque.

the second was an xf, this one had high comp pistons home ported head jones cam extractors and a home made lpg system on a injected manifold, unfortunately this one had to go after a coupla months so it never saw the dyno, but by seat of the pants testing and a couple of runs it would easily blow a standard 351 and some mildy modded ones. only prob was let the revs fall below 2500 and it was a dog.

IMO if you cant afford to put a reasonably worked v8 in don't bother do the six. carb manifold and extractors are the first point to start but don't expect to get a large power gain (especially if you've got the later weber carb). To get real gains out of the six raise compression stick a decent cam in and be prepared to get problems when you find low quality fuel.

also beware xc had iron head crossflow, xe had alloy head crossflow, they use different manifolds, make sure you get the right one.

Hey dude if ya realy want the the six to go keep the steel head shave it raise the comp with some forged pistons roller rockers (a must) and the 465 holley all good standerd mods but to clench some big HP fit the crank from an el with that combo you will find at least 1500 more rpm and around 250-300 hpat the fly but find a good machine shop for the work i have seen similer in a cortina run 11.9 down the quater ofcoarse you wont do those sort of time in a car that weighs twice what the cortina does.
