I was thinking of buying a crow stage 3 cam for my xd x-flow and the ad i was reading (Just Parts Peddler magazine) said 2500-6500 for $209, seems decent

Does 2500 mean it'll idle at that or is it usable power band or sumfin...

The 6500 seem to be a typo coz the next cam up does 3000-6000 or does crow make that cam with those specs

Are there any beter cams for my x-flow?

Im trying to crack at least 100kw at the wheels or better would such cam with xf efi head, holley 465, extractors and 2.5" exhaust do it

those rpm readings for the cam just shows you that the cam is working its best between them.. for your engine you need a cam that works to atleast 6000rpm.. a fresh standard motor with alloy,4 barrel carby and extractors will have more than 100klw at the tyres....

Thats what i wanted to hear,

What would the engine idle at about and is 130kws possible or i am just dreaming coz there are a few SS commos around that are pissing me off

Good luck with your cam selection, hop to www.wadecams.com - arguably one of the best cam makers for the X-flow around at the moment, and they are willing to answer any questions you have. Apparently aftermarket camshafts really wake up the ole 250 xflows.

With the bits you have mentioned go for a cam with about 215deg@050" on a 110 LSA. That size cam would start to labour in D and it would idle at ~800rpm with a slight to noticeable lope. Don't go too big on the cam or you will kill off too much low speed torque making the car more of a chore for daily use. Also if you have a 3spd auto I would highly recomend changing to a manual, even the 4 speed manual is a thousand times better.

Also do not use a 2 barrel to 4 barrel adaptor plate get an aftermarket 4 barrel manifold for the Holley.

Properly setup with ~3.45 diff gears you should be able to beat stock or near stock VN SS's but don't expect too much more than that. As the saying goes there's no replacement for displacement.

That is a typo, the cam in mention (14686) has the following specs and is a nice cam.

I am using the cam before it, the 14770.

One thing you have to remember is to use decent valve train gear. I also have a set of adjustable yt rollors which were a hell of a lot easier to set up than the standard rockers.

If the cam you were looking at is the 14686 then I would say that it is too big for what you want. You would need a 600 Holley, some head porting, a minimum of 10:1 compression, and some decent valve springs to run that cam. Even then a 2500rpm stall convertor would be mandatory for the auto along with 3.55's minimum and the idle would be rough. the car would feel lifeless below 1500rpm and would not START to come alive till 2500rpm.

In all honesty how often do you rev your engine over 5000rpm, 4000rpm and 3000rpm?? Don't look at peak power to choose your cam, look at your ACTUAL rev range. In trafficlight racing low speed torque wins hands down IMO.
