i want to change the stock stromberg carby of an xd and put something bigger on... fuel consumption is not an issue, want this thing to run and run hard.. but want the cheapest way

webers? cheap holley?

any ideas?

350 holley is usually the way to go. Although I have heard of ppl going to a triple weber setup and gaining heaps of power that way. Aslo depnds on you current setup. Do you have a decent cam and intake aswell as extractors?

I recommend a redline intake manifold with a 350 holley setup.

I have a mate who had a 250ci TC cortina. It was a 4spd man with balanced bottomend, redline intake, 350 holley, and extractors and very mild cam (just under a stage1 I think, sounded very stock) and he took on 5ltr torana's and obliterated them. Man that thing moved and it fryed tyres like their was no tomorrow.

Belive me, get that thing to breathe and you will have a killer sleeper!

remember: redline intake with 350holley = killer

a rebuild or whatnot

I'm not sure as to exact prices but a redline intake will set you back about $300 and reco holley about the same.

Rebuild bottom end can range from $700-$1k depending on who you get it done with and how you build it. Doing it ya self will save ya heaps.

All in all you should get away with it for under 2k and have a street killer!

Gearbox wise you may wanna invest in a h/d clutch if not a semi-race clutch, something from the hayes range and get the whole thing checked over!

Diff is something you may need to consider also if you intend on give the car a heap of the right foot!

XF's had a 2 barrel webber that provide good power on the stock manifold, and you could always be rejetted if you wanted, depends how much you want to really spend.

look on ebay or even the trading post, as redline manifolds with holleys go for under $100

Exactly what i was about to say. We swapped a mates 250 from an XD into his XE. In the XD it was a really smooth engine but really it was a slug.

When we dropped it into the XE we swapped the intakes over to use the 2 barrel webber and XE manifold and wow what a difference. It now has a 3.23 ratio diff and a dyno tune and for a basically stock car it goes really hard.

If your looking to get big power a redline 2bbl manifold can be yours for $150 if you want, PM me if your interested (and your in Melbourne) and a holley can be bought rebuilt from Hume Performance (02 9602 9033) for under $320 delivered to your local post office! This setup though, I will caution, might be a bit of over kill on a stock cammed engine, I would definatly look at getting a lumpier cam, otherwise you'll never use the extra flow the carb+manifold can deliver.
