The carby on my rebuilt XF 250 Xflow(Weber 34ADM) is in a bad state...should i rebuild it? or opt for something else...the engine is a stocker at the moment..but have future plans...
would say a holley be a better choice?? What about prices....would the rebuild be close to the cost of a new holley?
The stock Weber carbie is quite a good unit, I would just look at getting that rebuilt. I would imagine it would also be cheaper to rebuild the weber too. Expect to pay around $250 for a rebuilt Holley 350 or just over $400 for a new one.
Extreme, how are you at doing work on your car yourself, the stock carbies arent that bad. they are easy to rebuild. Cost me $65. just make sure you follow the workshop manuel. have you played with your air/fuel mixture and stuff because my carbie went for 16years without a rebuild and didnt really need it but i did anyway because it had some flat spots. just check that everything is how it should be before rebuilding it if you want.
I do most things to the car myself...but i havent opened up a carby before...that and i think the previous owners mechanics mucked around with it..it had a kit put thru 3 years ago acording to the recepits...but who knows what else they did to it...mixtures etc could have been altered to try and get the old engine running "properly"...way out of factory specs...
I found the 34ADM quite good for 190-200km in an auto XF, with slight boring out of the main jets, and mods to the vacuum pipes. Quite a surprising carby for its size.
The kits are cheap, its easy to work on.. and its stock so you have less hassles for replacements
