XF EFI - Nasty vibration and lack of acceleration

My XF Ghia is being a bit of a pain lately!

When I accelerate through a right hand turn or after one, there cometh a harsh sounding vibration - almost a grinding noise - from the engine, and you can feel the car vibrate. At the same time, the car just doesn't want to rev, which I don't suppose is a strange thing when it's making that kind of noise.

So it does it on almost every right turn, the occasional left, and usually on a straight just after a corner. An example is a big roundabout I take on the way home, turning right. Just as I begin to turn right the vibration kicks in, without changing the amount of throttle or doing anything else but turning the wheel. It stops once you straighten up and take your foot right off the gas, then you can boot it and it takes straight off.

I'm thinking it's a fuel problem, although it does it with both a full tank and an empty one. Type of fuel doesn't make a difference either. It just feels as though the engine isn't getting enough of something - like fuel!

It's annoying, because apart from the modified mighty 3 speed auto which isn't too bad, it's the only thing stopping this car from being immensly enjoyable.

Sounds like fuel to me too. What usually happens is when you turn, air is sucked up into the fuel pump and causes the engine to cough for a bit. Can generally be fixed by adjusting the position of the fuel pickup filter. The only problem is this is usually fixed when running a full tank. Another possibility is the auto trans, if low on fluid or low in line pressure, can cause this type of problem.

Check the engine mounts for one, do you have lsd, it may be diff, are 100% it is front end noise, and not from the rear.

EDXR8 - When you say cough, that would be different as to what I explained?

Dell - Very sure it's from the front, and I do have LSD. Feels like the engine not wanting to go rather than anything else.

Check the alignment of all concerened, so engine mounts, gearbox mount as well, i reckon you have a broken engine mount, jack the motor up and see if the mounts are holding, when i rebuilt my motor I found i had a broken mount and didnt even know it :0)

Re: XF EFI - Nasty vibration and lack of acceleration

Power steering pump could be causing the vibration - check the power steering fluid level.
