hey guys i bought a cheap XF as a run around car and well i have never owned a ford before, and dont know much about them, especially pre E series. As noob as this sounds i dont actually know which engine it has! It is carby and runs on unleaded, but i have been searching the net and these forums etc and it seems the XF came out with a 3.3L as well as the 4.1L (i thought they were all 4.1 but evidently was wrong).
Anyway here is a pic of it
Also it has a small problem with low RPM at idle like if you pull up at some traffic lights she can get a little impatient and a bit jerky... not all the time only sometimes, and a bit of left foot brake, right foot accelerator to keep the revs happy is all thats needed in these occasions. Is there an easy way to up the idle RPM? I know my way around an EFI system but when it comes to carbies i have no idea... what can i do to help the idle out a bit?
I also plan to do a full oil and coolant change, replace air and oil filter and leads and plugs just so i know they are all in good condition. Hopefully it will be a reliable tank for the next few months while my main car is finishing off its build up. It only has like 130K km so should be a fair bit left in the old girl yet. But the 3 speed auto is a P.O.S Anyway cant expect much for $1100
basically my questions are:
- do i have a 4.1L or a 3.3L ?
- what oil should i use in it?
- any suggestions to fix up the idle (clean carby?, reset timing, is there a similar thing to a throttle stop adjustment screw on an EFI car?)
cheers for any help
