XF Engines...Who/Where did ford source them from? - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

Hey All,

Ive always been wondering...were the XF engines sourced from a particular company...like the windsors or clevelands?? or were they just something that ford produced?

The XF engines are ford production engines. The Windsors and Cleveland engines are also Ford production engines built in the Ford engine plant in Cleveland, not from an outside company.

You may have heard that Honda [I think?] made the head for the X.E "at first".But tmk "all Aussi".Originally the six was made in Canada/U.S as the early st.six in Mussy & others..I guess we got the tooling/forging to produce it originally from there...We improved it tho...

I guess if you really wanted to trace the origins of the 6 cylinder it started with the motor in the xk's xl's etc. This motor I think was around 170 cubes and had the inlet manifold cast into the head, this same basic configuration grew in size through the models until the XC when the head was changed to a cast iron cross flow design (required to pass ADR27A emissions) With the XD the head was replaced with a Alloy version and it is this design that hung around until EA when it became an overhead cam. (but the block was pretty much the same)

The 250 2V was an option on xy, xa and some xb's which had a redesigned head (with bigger valves and a removable inlet manifold)

It's definately an Enduring Classic isn't it??

It was the XD's first Alloy head that was designed by Honda and cast here in Aust. I remember the original sales promo that showed a seesaw with one iron crossflow head on one side and three alloy heads on the other to even it up.
