Well now the time has come..the XF needs a new engine...its getting tired and leaky(water/oil/you name it!)but for almost 300,000 on the clock its done well :-)..that and the head gasket/timing chain issues at the moment id rather just pull the old out and in with a so called "new".
Ive had a look around and have had a few quotes around the $1500-$1700 mark for a straight in straight out reconditioned engine fitted with a 3 yr warranty.
does that seem reasonable?? or am i paying too much for a old 250 x flow??
And what about the engine number...what happens there?? do i just inform the RTA that a recon engine has been fitted?
Thanks for any Help

You just take the papers prooving ownership and get a pink slip from memory, then present that and the reciept to the RTA to change your rego papers, give them a call things may have changed.
The prices are about right, I paid that years ago to get my XF motor rebuilt, you should think about a better cam to give you a bit more go off the line, wont had to much more to the price, and you can keep the rest as stock rebuild, I didn't regret doing it.

When the engine in mine got done it was amazing how quickly the power went up. i sware it doubled. it was amazing, before it was really gutless but now, heaps better. mine was about $2000 i think.

I'm with mongrelEB on this one - why fluff around with a 4.1 when you can have a V8? (unless you need it for a daily driver of course - but even then - lots of prep & a weekend changeover...)
