XF falcon gearboxes

Hey guys

I have a 1985 XF Falcon, currently has a 3speed manual column shift. I have a floor mounted 4speed manual out of another car waiting to go in, now what I need to know is, what is interchangable from the 2 gearboxes? Is the clutch different? What else?

If anyone also knows what I need from the donor car to accompany the 4speed transplant it would be great if you could tell me.

Thanks in advance

Re: XF falcon gearboxes

i did mine a few months back, its a ute but the only parts changed was the clutch pressure plate and thrust race. don't forget the spigot bearing.
if u have the bellhousing and box its a easy conversion as long as its not unleaded

Re: XF falcon gearboxes

Someone did a real bodge job on my PV when they converted it from column to 4 speed. It now has a T5. You will need to cut a decent size hole in the floor - (obviously - duh) - for the gearstick.

While you are at get an adjustable steering column and surround from a Ghia/ZL/sedan.

You can also get a steel "hump" from a manual that screws into place and has the mounts for the gearstick cover - not sure what model, but pretty sure you'll find something similar in XA-XF

xf 02: What if the donor car is Unleaded but the receiving car is Leaded?

Is the clutch from the 3speed the same as the 4speed clutch? The 4speed one is rooted..
