hi, ive got a 88 xf ghia which has been sitting in my shed for 5 months,hasnt been started once .the other day i went to start it, only to find that it would only wind over,so i put some fuel down the throttle body and surprise she started,but only for a few seconds,so i assumed it needed fuel so i put some in to the tank and it still will not start,it will only fire if i put some down the throttle body!! any ideas as to the problem any info would be g8t thanx

It could be a blocked jet in the carb.

Does it spray fuel in when you pump the accellerator?

the car is fuel injected eec4 computer? before all this shit happened it was running fine,started first time every time!

remove a fuel line from the engine bay, blow though it with your mouth, if you dont hear bubbles in the fuel tank then you have a blockage.
check to make sure your fuel pump still works.
check each jet.

oh, I misread it a little.

Well then, you might as well check the fuse for the ECU.
Check the spark plugs, see if there is any fuel getting to the cylinders.
It could just be a case of stale fuel.

and as davway said, check the fuel filter/pump and fuel lines.

is the ecu fuse in the fuse box in the dash or is located somewere else, i cant recall if the car had a electric fuel pump, cause i cant hear anything

how do i check the fuel pump? fuse,relay ect!. and where is the fuel pump located?

The fuel pump generally goes in at the tank at your boot.However..Firstly go to your fuel rail in the engine bay ,undo the fuel line and put it in a bottle.Then go back to your ignition and switch it to ignition position but do not crank the engine.Turn it off...Now walk over to the bottle in your engine bay .Has it got fuel in it???If so your pump is fine ..if not post again and ill help you more..
