i Recently bought myself a 86 xf, it needs a whole new exhaust system, but body is extremely str8 apart from one dent.

but my biggest problem is in the 250 crossflow. the sump has been damged beyond repair, so im changing that, but where the sump was hit, was where the pickup is located. i recently took my rocker cover off, i have never seen anything like it, the oil had been fried that much the it was just a sticky goo, like boot polish. i scooped a 2litre ice cream bucket full of goo out of it.

i am doing a full engine flush, by putting additives in used thin oils and just flushing the system with a new oil filter about 5 times. my ball joints also need work. my air con needs to be replaced and most of my gauges dont work. So i will get it back to working order and fix all the problems with it. but my question is? once i have done that!! keep it, or junk it?

A good used xflow 6 will only be a few dollars , go change the thing and drive with a smile .

man... the sludge isnt from it being cooked.. its just from lack of oil changes and short trip driving... dont worrie about the sludge.. they love it

cheers for the info guys, i have been think and if the egine isn't too bad when im done i will keep it, but if it is going to be too much of a headche to fix i have been thinking about replacing it with a 302. but ill wait and see for that. also one last question. my speedo doesn't work, but it seems to be connected, but i do not know wether the 86 falcon speedometer is cable or electric, any info would be great. cheers

XD onwards speedos / odometers are electronic. A very common fault is the gear that drives the odometer falls to bits. Should not affect your speedo, but - check the dash assembly for bad soldering (a very common problem on xf instrument modules) ----- resolder the whole thing anyway!
