Question XF Oil Consumption Query

Hey Guys

In doing my fortnightly under bonnet check...i decided to check the oil level...now i checked it with the engine cold, and it came up to 1/2 way on the dipstick...the last time i put in oil was in July..so for an old engine...this sort of consumption would be okay?

The car drives fine..and coolant levels are all normal...dosent have any visible smoke at all...

Should i top it up? Or wait till my next oil change...which is due in december?

Thanks

Extreme

Always top it up when it is below full. 2-3L in 4-5 months is a bit, but it is an old engine. Just keep an eye on it.

Acceptable oil usage is 1litre/1200kms.

Always keep it full, as oil acts as an engine coolant as well as lubrication. Should change the oil every 5,000k's. Cheap insurance.

I dunno how much half the dip stick is, but that's alot less than my car used to use! I'd go through half the stick in a week!!!

i probably use about 1 - 1.5 L every 5000 kms, so yours isnt too bad i suppose. ... just keep an eye on it, as long as its not blowing loads of smoke or gumming up the plugs its not too bad :)
worst comes to the worst just buy supercheap oil and keep fillin er up :)

Some times when it's low'er like that it's cheaper to change the oil.
