In the recent few weeks of hot weather, the temperature on my S pak has been sitting around the 1/2 way mark for most of the time. A few times it went over 1/2 way for about 1/2 a minute and then back down. Before it started getting warm it used to sit at about 1/4 or 1/3 of the way up. Is this normal?? Or is the thermostat starting to pack it in??
Its a 4.1 carby by the way..
Thanks
Extreme

My XF S runs at about 1/4 or less pretty much all year, on the elec. guage is normally 3 bars but comes and goes to 2 and occasionally 4. Is this too low and should be raised or should it be left well enough alone. Its 4.1 EFI

When my XF is warming up, the temp guage goes climbs to just over 3/4. It stays there for about 3-4 seconds, and then goes back down to 1/4 real quickly.
Werd!!!
What's even weirder, is I talk to it whilst it is going up, and then tell it to get it's arse back down. And it always does what it is told.
Ill flush the cooling system and replace the thermostat anyway...with summer comming up that dosent seem like a bad idea!
And on another note...ive been told fords do run a bit warm...and thats why they changed the temp gauges in the EA- from the old bar type to having the word "NORMAL", because people were thinking that their engines were overheating?
Is that true??

Happens like that when the thermostat sticks a little - ie doesn't open progressively.
... and you really find talking to it helps? ... hmmmmm. Sometimes I worry 'bout you Ken.
... and do you talk to your avatar as well? Does it always do as it's told too? heheheh.
Ken you need a new thermostat too. Mine was doing that until I changed it, and I used to talk to it too. The one I put in was too cool and now my heater won't get hot enough.
Low XF, mine always sits on exactly half or one block below on the digital gauge. But with the cooler thermostat in there now it sits 1-2 blocks lower.
