Is there much gain to be brought on by this mod? I can get an XR6 cam for $100 and thought it might be worth a go.

I have extractors and exhaust.

how much are other decent cams ? ie crane etc ?

I think its about $280 for a decent aftermarket cam. I don't honestly think there will be a huge gain, but it may still be better than nothing.

Just a little note, don't forget that the XR6 had an increased fuel pressure and the head was slightly different with a slight increase in compression ratio, so i'm not sure if you'll gain that much benefit from just the cam.

Also what XR6 cam did you get, as they did change from EBII-ED to EF-EL and AU.

Its an ED XR6 cam, I don't think I'll bother. Thanks for the replies.

The ED XR6 cam is very close to an EL cam.

I put an EL cam in mine, and it pulls noticably harder from 3000 rpm up.

If you have got the cam, give it a go, remember to reset the ecu.
Also give it a couple deg more timing, it will only go better, not worse.

I Think I'll put my $100 towards a EL Fairmont Ghia, it has an XR6 cam too. Hehehe.
