The last time this was discussed, people concluded it was better and cheaper to go for high quality aftermarket components rather than XR6 heads, etc.

I don't know of anyone who has done that particular conversion so can't be of any more help...

According to Mick Webb SVO, the only real difference to the XR head is a 30 thou shave.

XR6 head

The XR6 head has a few more differences than a 30 thou shave. The shave results in compression beiong 8.8:1 rather than 8.5:1 standard.

The Au and Ef (not so sure about the EF) has 9:1 compression anyway.

It supposedly has 39 vs 37 mm exhaust valves, and different porting. Not too much though.

I had looked into getting some porting done when I had my head off, but apparently there's not much to be done.

The head flows pretty well as standard from what I understand.

Still a slight massage to remove casting dags might be advantageous.

yeh the xr6 head was advertised by ford as having a higher flowing better ported head. What they did i am not sure but for the cost of one just have yours ported and the exhaust also polished, if u get really excited have ef-el valves installed as they are a bit bigger

Re: heads

ED comp ratio is 8.8:1 for the standard engine, 9.01:1 for the XR.
