Can anyone suggest a way to gain 30 to 40 more kw from my EF XR6 5spd.
I am looking at spending some money on the ol girl.
Goes like hell now but would love just a little more horses to piss off the new Commodore drivers.

Go with a JMM DEV5 upgrade kit if you can afford it or simply just buy the DEV5 cam, vernier gear and H/duty valve springs and fit them youself. A set of JMM race series extractors or pacemakers and a 2.5" system should do it.
Can all be done for $2,500 doing it yourself or $5,500 to get JMM to do it all for you properly
I think if you could give some sort of budget indication then we'll be able to point you in the right direction. Obviously $6000 can buy a lot more kws tha $500!
id go to jmm and get their dev1 exhaust and intake pack, then slot in some bigger valve springs and use a wade 1004@112 or bigger. That should see you close to 200kw's at the flywheel.
After that it gets alot more expensive, and you would be better off with a turbo if your after more power.
I have a 96 EII XR6, maunal too.. interesting reading, i'm doing a few mods soon, starting with extractors, a high flow cat, and a better air filter.. keep us posted what you decide to do and how it all turns out, and of course how much $$ it costs and if its worth it/are u happy with it :)
I'll be doing my exhaust system hopefully very soon, though im not going to bother with an aftermarket panel filter. The gains you get for $150 doesnt seem worth it.

Really, i've read that this is true and that it isn't, i thought that by upgrading your exhaust system, (i.e bigger exhaust, high flow cat and extractors) that better air induction (i.e such as a better panel filter in this case) was neccessary to really see and benefits ? is this true, :? i keep reading something different.
I went to Herrods with a mate, and they had dyno sheets of a BA XR8 with a full exhaust system. The first dyno had a standard air filter then the second dyno had a K&N air filter. The gain was 0.2rwkw with the K&N compared to the standard filter. They also claim that the BMC filter will give up to 8rwkw, but its over $200 for the filter :/
