Have recently added Genie Header and 2.5"exhaust system to my xr6hp, not only has it given improved power output but also extra k's per tank old scale now 34MPG on recent trip.
Included also is high flow air filter, t serie's air intake to air box
and using Caltex energy 5w-30 Engine oil.
This seems to be a good combination.
Has any other member tried other options?
What MPG is received by say a XR6VCT.
Who use's what oil?

Mine was 8.5 to 9.1 L per 100 kms on the trip to melbourne. That's all highway driving and with a bog standard VCT

I have a 2001 VCT, have added Lukey extractors, K&N filter, T-series snorkel induction. The performance of the car is definetly better as it breathes far better. Fuel economy also got a small but modest increase normally extra 30kms per tank full. I always use Shell Optimax or BP Ulitmate. First service isnt due yet but am thinnking of providing my own oil for the task, was thinking either Shell Helix Ultra, Mobil One or Castrol TXT . Not sure what Ford uses as standard but if they cover all the other costs of servicing (to 60000kms) I can cover the oil and know what goes in there!!...Anyone experience with any of those oiils or the FUCHS range??

My XR6HP is completely stock and drinks like a fish. I'm lucky to get 70-80km from 13 litres of fuel. Might have to look at extractors etc, in order to increase economy. BTW, im not always fanging it, just seems to drink around town.

Ford I believe use Valvoline, Would recommend you try Caltex Havoline Energy 5w -30 It is a group 3 oil base, check out the caltex website, www.caltex.com.au. "go to motor oil area" will give you 50+K's per tank.
Have tried Shell 5w-30, and 5w-40 claimed synthetic, Ferrari oil.
This is not a true synthetic. All there oils are good but not as good as Caltex Energy.
Have not looked at Fuchs oil, you would have to ensure that you use a 5w-30 or 10w-30 grade of oil.

Check out tyre pressure, and on long trip engage cruise if you have it.

Best mileage I received prior to Headers, filter, bigger snorkel etc was 650 per tank, now out to 840 on highway included using 5w-30 Caltex Energy, Halvoline in USA have been the first to introduce a Ilsac 3, oil not in Australia yet current oil is Ilsac 2.
Around town expect around 560-600 K's.
The AUxr6hp is fitted with a standard forte exhaust system, not a
sport system, can improve by fitting 2.5" system from cat back without headers.

Are you running standard unleaded, premium or the higher octane Optimax or Ultimate?...

Cos' if i ever (have to) use regular unleaded fuel economy nose dives....

I run standard unleaded fuel may take time for computer to adjust.

the XR6 HP has the standard exhaust but the XR6 VCT has a 'sports' twin system like exhaust is that correct?

Yes standard exhaust forte on auxr6hp, twin pipes on vct, they had to deal with irs at rear.
Ran 1 tank of premium grade petrol could not feel any differance, went back to standard unleaded.

Interesting point dkmaj. I run regular unleaded. I used to run Optimax but when I would start it cold, it would turnover then stall; all the time! Switched back to reg unleaded, has not stalled since and this was over a year ago! I did notice slightly better economy on optimax but i was not happy about the cold start stalling. I occasionally run 96 RON premium unleaded and i have no probs stalling but i dont notice much difference in economy to reg unleaded. What are your thoughts on this?
