302 build suggestions? - Ford Forums

Hi there,
Im an apprentice and jus brought my first v8, have played with a couple 2L cortina motors before but now wana move up to the 8 pack!
I have a 302 im wanting to rebuild to get up and boogie in an xf. i have a celica 5sp but want to know whats the best basic way to make a 302 get up and go wit about $3000 but doing the labour myself.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hows it goin, mate to do it you will have to put a mild cam , good lifters and springs , 600 holley and good intake manifold , headers and good exhaust system , good ignition (MSD) THAT WILL EAT UP YOUR $3000. As for the celica 5 speed I do not think it would be worth it or if it would last?! A C4 auto is easy to get and parts are plentiful , if you want manual just go toploader as they are proven. My opinion is just go auto with shift kit. Good luck with your project

thanks for that, i already have a few goodies for it, but i am wanting to know whats the best parts to use or the essentials to use when i have the engine apart because i am planning on rebuilding it before i put it in.

Why not throw a 351 crank in or even a stroker kit. Look at Pavtek , Dart , Scat, they have some good package deals.
