Check that the seal around the filter is not leaking ?? Or replace it!!

You have either over tightened the filter and stuffed the seal or didn't tighten the filter enough.
Did you rub oil with you finger on the seal before putting it on?

Was part of the old seal left in place? It will leak until this is cleaned out.

You still need a gasget on the head / inlet though..It does help keep oil & heat off bottom of inlet, thats the theory..

What about your rocker cover gaskets, they may be squashed or simply perished and blowing oil on the filter.

When i had my cleveland I put the Edelbrock performer manifold on and i used the valley cover - as ebxr says it helps to insulate the bottom of the manifold and gives a cooler charge of fuel.

catch yah later

Check your fuel pump. Some pumps have a little hole on the backside. If the rubber seal inside the pump is defective oil will come out the hole and can blow back on the filter...
