Hi I just bought what I thought to be a standard 351 engine and planed to put some 302 heads on to it that I already have. When I took the heads off the 351 they seem to be the same as the 302 heads. How do I tell the difference? maybe they were already 302 heads.

302 combustion chambers are smaller; they are quite different and easily noticeable. One side of the 302 chamber is straight (opposite spark plug); the same side of a 351 chamber is a large arc.There may be pics of it on the forum.

Its super easy to notice the BIG 302 or 351 numbers on the heads..
The 351 will have letters "WF" which will be Windsor foundry.
Now the difference depending on the castings is port size, chamber size and valve size.
You have to be careful with that.
If your rocker arms are self adjustable (rail style)
and its better to go with the 351 heads.... You sacrifice like 4 ccs of chamber but gain a lot of port space and more valve....
