I have had a look at this site http://www.falcongt.com.au/ID.html and cannot seem to find where 'L' fits in. My advice would be to email them and ask.

BTW, what type of car do you have??

it wouldn't be a May '67 Falcon 500 wagon would it???

I know that H is the brisbane plant, maybe it was made in Sydney????

codes are as follows, i would check the first letters again, it should be a JG number, 31 is falcon 500 wagon, G stands for 1967, and L stands for May of that year. The only other code i know of is JH for cars produced in Queensland, as previously stated.

Re: 351 engine code

From memory the only other plant in Australia making Fords in the 60s/70s aside from Broadmeadows (JG) and Eagle Farm (JH) was Homebush in Sydney.

In '66 or '67 they even assembled some Mustangs at Homebush using part from the Falcon of the day. So it is probably a Sydnet car.
