hi guy's after a lot of work with a wire brush got some number's off the motor and was wondering if any of you can i.d what motor it is?

under the right hand manifold is D2AECA and under that is 2K26 on the front of the motor is it's either JC3APY or JG34PY and under that is 62278K.

Dunno about the rest of it, but JG34PY means:

J - Ford
G - Broadmeadows plant (VIC)
34 - Fairmont
PY - Feb 1974

So it's an engine from an XB Fairmont, which usually means a 302 with 2v heads and (probably) a 2-barrell intake. Money's on a 302, not a 351. Best way to check this is:

1. Remove a spark plug and measure the stroke on one cylinder. From BDC to TDC, 3" means 302 and 3.5" means 351.
2. Take the sump off and look at the crank itself. It'll either have 302 or 351 stamped on the left side of one of the forward counter-balance castings.

cheer's for that not much info on these motor's in the uk it has a 4 barrell intake(cast iron) will pull the head's off later and let you guy's know.

your right about to many 4 cylinder motor's over here it was going in an 85 mustang(4 pot) but i've just been given a 1979 capri so it's going in that instead.

thing is a lot of the v8 motor's only get used on the strip as petrol is so expensive at nearly £4.00 a gallon not sure what that work's out to over your side of the world,but if i did'nt spend the money on the car the wife would only waste it.

one thing after taking the inlet off at the front of the motor (inside where the pushrod's are)there's a hole in the block that i can put my finger through into the hole for the dizzy,it look's like it is meant to be there but has been made bigger,anyone got any idea's?.

This is an oil drain hole from the valley area back into the sump. It's for the oil that drains from the top of the heads (from the push rods squirting oil onto the rockers etc).

The holes are anything but neat! They look like someone has taken a hammer to the cast iron and smashed it. You may also find a similar hole toward the back of the valley area too I think.

Ouch, 4 quid per gallon! Thats about 10 aussie dollars, about double what we're paying and about four times the price of US fuel!

The capri will go well with a 351. Very light car!

cheer's for clearing that up about the hole it does look like someone took a hammer to it,looking forward to doing the capri should be fun.

as for the price of petrol it really hurt's the wallet out of that £4.00 per gallon about 80% of that is tax!.
