yes there were a few but there was no system as to where they showed up.
they showed up in some F100's, fairlane's and the odd falcon. an XE 4bolt 351 showed up on Ebay a couple of weeks ago out of an xb ute for $1200

Ford mad and proud of it 71xyfmt, 96ef xr8, 82xe 's'pac 400k old workbus!

I guess its possible but it doesn't make any sence.

Im yet to see one that could be verified as accurate.

The Theory behind the 4 bolt Phase 4 doesn't work out because the 4 bolt motors were never imoported in the first place.
The latest theory is Ford were going to import 4 bolt cap sets and fit them to 2 bolt blocks, but who knows!
Maybe these random 4 bolt sightings were Ford getting rid of 200 sets of 4 bolt caps?!

Go the 2 bolt. Less bolts to torque up when building

I know that in the late 70s when I was working at a dealership here in Melbourne there where some American improt Broncos that I know for a fact had four bolt main caps, because we were always changing the bloody things. Also if you read what David Bowden has writen about them there where a few that were fitted to the phase 4, and they were not taped and drilled 2 bolt blocks and he has some spare blocks kicking around as well.

I saw 6 ex-Vic Police XE falcons at Bayside Holden (now called something else) in late 1985. They were all beige colour, manuals, very basic inside.

I spoke to the sales guy who I knew there and he said they were all "pursuit specials". They were all in the workshop in different states of getting the cop bits pulled out and turned back in to civvy cars (they all had a small silver plug in their roofs and lots of scuff markes on their gutters). One had it's engine out getting fixed and it absolutely had 4 bolt mains. The sales guy said they all did.

I took one for a test drive. Had it going sideways accross beach street from a clutch side slip start..... Very strong - much stronger than a normal 5.8. None of them had power steering. I nearly bought one - they were $8K each, too much for me at the time.
