Got my GT back on Friday, it looks as though this cam will be ok, i lost the last two, i had to do 200klm this weekend without the inner valve springs in, so Brenx and myself hit the road cruising Friday and today, whoever said a big cam and ported 4v's don't have much bottom end needs a ride in my car, it pulls clean from 2000 rpm in 4th gear :), the inner springs should go back in this week, then another 800klm of running in until the tune !, at this stage it feels as though it will go quite well.
I've got no idea who started the rumour mill of 4V's lacking low down. As Falcon coupes 351 4V lacks nothing down low. Cruising was fun.
Buggered if I know wtf has happened to my fuel econ 40-50lt in 100k's just ain't right. $30 Fri/$50 Sat and $30 today. I don't know how much vac I have now but I reckon the powervalves opening too early. That is the only thing I can think of that it could possibly be. I've got more vac than I used to have with the cast irons.

You must be "finally" a happy man. I am going to run just the outers for the 1000km. I'm not taking any chances. It also gives me the willpower to not race and overrev for a bit.

Finally Nick! Congratulations mate 3rd time lucky with the cam, talk about bad luck! I have no experience with 4V heads, so will be very interested in how yours goes. Sounds like it is quite tame on the street, I bet it will be and animal at the track
I've been for a run in it @ no more than 4000rpm max and it pulled very very hard. Once sorted it'll be fast. I can assure you of that. Man I wished mine sounded like Nick's. It sounds tough as.
i reckon that the "rumor" relates to standard engines with the 2.75 or 3.00 diff gearing in them.also if someone modifies the engine and leaves standard gearing then they can feel "flat",but with the right gearing and stall (if auto) they go well.
congrats on getting your rig up and going i hope it gives you great pleasure and can hose off all these plastic engined commodores at the strip.

4:88 gears do help a lot :) top gear is similar to 4:11's in an auto.
And as for hosing plastic v8 commodores, sounds like a lot of fun.
Hallam performance were happy with my initial dyno graph lol :
I suppose that's what you get when you ask chev boys to build a clevo hahaha.
