Backfire on idle only

Gday all, ive just recently got me car up and running again after donating $200 to the international carby mechanics fund and ive hit a problem. It is that (hot or cold) the car runs fine when revving and what not, but when idling, it seems to backfire... quite a bit

now im not sure if it was doing this before as its a recent acquirement and, well yeh.

anyone got any suggestions?

btw its a 351 with a 650dp

cheers all

Check for inlet leaks a compression test to check for bent valves or burnt, damaged valves.Plugs/ leads and timing perfect??

Re: Backfire on idle only

As above, timing.

Also check idle mixtures.

Does it backfire just sitting there, or is it when you start to put your foot down?

Re: Backfire on idle only

TTN, yes it is only doing it when sitting there but come to think of it, xf is right, its more of a popping sound than anything, i think i will check the valves when i can....

just as an off note, will it be a bad thing to continue using, ie will it do mor damage?
