Hello again,

As I am a novice in the mechanical field I am wondering if anyone could recommend a particular oil for my 351 cleveland.

I bought it after it had been sitting for about 18mths and apparently started every few weeks. Now the tappets are making a ticking noise. Is there a particular type of oil that might free things up a bit? Then I could maybe change to a more mainstream oil later.

Also I think the firing order could be out which I will check tomorrow. I found the correct order on this site. This could also be making my engine rattle I suppose.

I've been using pennzoil 'Street Machine' blend for noisy lifters and its been great.

I'd avoid penrite, it just turns to water. I used to be penrite only, but the quality of the oil that came out of BB after 1 week (flushed the oil system with a proper oil flush with 4L of cheap oil too) the oil came out just pathetically thin... and this is with HPR40.

I had my heads rebuilt as the collets had worn the valves down. the tappet noise dissapeared

Thanks everyone,

I will go looking for Pennzoil "Street Machine" Blend tomorrow and mix it with the Nulon Tappet Fixer stuff. Run that for a week or so then swap it.

You have to run the Nulon for at least 500Km. Then you can leavi it in til your next oil change is due.

Strange, I've been using Penrite for something like 15 years without any problems.
We even tried many different oils when we were drag racing our Clevo, and eventually went back to Penrite as no other oil performed any better, though several did perform as good.
I currently use it in both our cars and both our motorbikes (HPR15 and HPR10).
