Im having the 4v heads put back on my xa hardtop soon, and im considering throwing in a new cam while ive got the heads off. i will be running extractors/twin system and i have a 2500rpm histall (which i will match with some 3.5 gears). the manifold will remain cast iron (hopefully just until the tax return comes in) and it has a 700 dp holley on it. the car is solely a cruiser so im not looking for a race engine, but a bit more grunt never goes astray...... any suggestions?

F246 sounds good with 4v heads but I would use at least 3500 stall and a W
X-Cellerator or R Street Torker manifold. E Torker might be too big.

hardly a "cruiser" set up.
don't put the 4v's on it mate, put the 2v closed chambers on and a comp cams 268. that'll get you "cruising"

F238 Ireckon would be the limit for a dual plane manifold or for a bit wilder a F246 and a single plane.
If all you want is to cruise then just leave the 2Vs on and an extremely mild cam. If you want to drag or something else as well, then the game changes.

If your intentions are solely cruising then like most guys have said don,t waste the 4v,s on a motor like this.you will find the 2v head a far better option in this instance.cam recommendations as far as i am concerned would be a hydraulic number as these require no maintenance once installed.with your 2500 stall converter you obviously would not want anything too radical.Consult someone like crow cams for a recommendation.they will put you on the right track.one cam of theirs i liked was the 21665.507/536 214/224 @50.Made a nice street cam with 2v,s,ported ,street domi intake ,650 dp etc.

With my 351 2v I used a Precision equiv to Erson TQ20 and Ford SVO.
Specs were 292/302 214/224 .512/.536
Everyone grinds this ie Cam Dynamics, MegaTork and cost round $150. Crow are local and good but cost $200. Don't forget the Rollmaster !!!
I used Performer and 600 vac, C4 2000 stall and BW 4.00:1 LSD - 14.453 @ 97.71 mph
My 4v combo is the same except I use a Crane F246 and 3500 stall.

Depends on the driver. XBWGN's 302 XB coupe with 163rwkw (i know nothing special btu it aint stock) with a 3.5 diff and 4 spd manual does close enough to 450k's per tank. This runs a 650DP. We just did a trip to Wodonga in the car 8 days ago.

My 351 used to do 350-380k's per tank. I ran 3500rpm histall and 4.11's. I run a 750DP.

Fuel economy has a lot to do with tune and the driver. After you have power for awhile. The novelty of planting your foot wears off and your fuel economy comes back.
