I,m dropping in a warm 351 2V clevo into my XA fairmont I need to consider what air cleaner to use. We've all heard the advantages of cold air induction, is it worth the the hassle? I like the idea of a shaker thru the hood its got to be the easiest option I thing? My XA hood seems to have a area between the hood skin supports where it could accomdate the cutout, was this intended for that? The ill-fated phase 4 would have had one!

Have a look at performance ford magazine. THey have an XA coupe on the cover with a shaker. Looks like a neat installation and far better looking than hadmade prostock set-up

You can pick up a shaker kit from Mustang Autoparts at Bullimba

Another option would to adapt a 71 Mustang Mach 1 ram air and use standarXA Falcon naca ducts to pick up the air

I fabricated a cold air box out of aluminium which sits on top of the carb and seals off the hood scoop. Its worth the effort as it helped me run into the 11's. One word of warning, if the volume of the air box is to small you can get a flat spot when leaving the line as the box acts like a plemum chamber and cracking open your throttle can suck the air out real quick and give you the flat spot.

Go the Shaker,

Its cheap and easy to Instal
If you do the cut properly you won't even have to repaint the bonnet.

Whack in a K & N Filter and you've got a pretty good set up.
I noticed a substantial difference when I installed one on my XE.

Make sure you retune the motor for the extra air, it may run leaner if you just leave it as the Shaker also acts like a RAM Air device.

Shakers look terrible on the XA.

I am with xbgs351 .. but they are functional.
Perhaps a GT bonnet with the scoops .. it would have to be better than hot air only.
Phase IV wasn't going to have a shaker BTW

What about a XC Cobra style reverse facing bonnet scoop? Cut the hole, seal from air cleaner to the bonnet. Forgive me for even thinking it but a A9X scoop might be ok too. Thats what I run on me Capri. Just a thought.
Shakers and XA's I think dont mix. Cold air is definately worth it!

There is a company in Melbourne that sells a RAM-AIR kit for XB / XC the same style as the RAM-AIR setup used on the 1971 Mustang.

They use the NASA style scoops, hence won't work on an XA.
