I Have A Cleveland Block Standard Bore I Wish To Sell. I Am A Little Confused With The Ford "d" Blocks?? Whats The Difference And How Can You Tell. There Is One On Ebay Someone Wants $1000 For With The Casting Numbers Starting With "d". My Block Also Starts With A "d". Any Help Appreciated
A D block has a "D" shape to the right hand side of the distributor (passenger side here in Aust). It's got nothing to do with the engine number. I'm sure someone will have a picture somewhere.
Hold 5
if we are talking a casting impression then brenx is the man. If we are talking about a casting number on the block, the D=1970 decade, and the next digit is year in that decade...
I.e D9XX-XXXX= 1979 option option etc. EXXX-XXXX would be in the 1980 decade
As far as i know "'D"' blocks are, as brenx said recognised by the ''d'' raised casting on the area of the block near the distributor. Most other blocks have a square instead. I,m of the opinion that these blocks are more sought after because many original early GT,s were offered with this part instead of the other block . If you are doing concourse resto on a GT then this is the block you would be looking for. I may be wrong, but thats my take on the whole subject.
Looks like they borrowed some pictures from this forum :shh:
The picture of the pillowblock is mine, that i took at work.
I should sue them.. haha(just kidding)

What surprised me about the site abovementioned was it made no reference to the different sized distributor shaft hole in the earlier and later blocks
