If the engine is in original condition the valve covers were painted red on the 302C.
In the corner of the heads where you usually find a "4" or other identifying mark the 302C heads will have nothing at all.
Also, notice in the picture below the two casting "lugs" in the bottom edge of the head where the cylinder head meets the block that are circled in red. Only the 302C heads have this. If your heads have them and they are original to the engine then you have a 302C.

Earlier model 302 heads have that feature but i have a set of E casting heads (80,s) which don,t have that feature.
