Thought it may be interesting to find out who is using grout fill and who is running 4 bolt mains. There are some pretty stout clevos on this forum, at long last the aftermarket has taken notice of us clevo people.

I'm in the process of building a 383 stroker. The block is at the machine shop & it is getting grout-filled, the bottom 1.5" to stabilise the bores. My machinist reckons this is neccessary in Clevo blocks & will not affect cooling. He also reckons 4-bolt mains aren't neccessary as Clevo's have really strong bottom ends, just run good main studs. Mal.
I've been told that grout filled to the water jackets doesn't really affect cooling, i'll be filling mine up a little higher than that and running methanol to keep her cool :)

I'm doing the same thing with a short fill grouted 383 clevo, but will also use a larger capacity performance sump and cooler to help control oil temp.

You guys are all MAD. Nothing wrong with being a little out there. Keep it up. Your helping keep a 35 year old engine young.

I think they turn the block upside down then grout fill up to the bottom of the welsh plugs dont they. Do they grout fill after the machine work is done. Oh i guess they would cause if they had to hot tank it to get shit out from machining grout would come out.

The block is turned on its side so the head deck is parallel & the grout is poured in. It is then left to set (about 24 hours) then the block is turned so the other head deck is parallel & that side is grout-filled. If you're planning on running a stroker crank, grout-fill the block first & then clearance the block to clear the stroker. This way, if you happen to grind a little too close to a water jacket, the grout-fill in the jacket will prevent any leakage. Mal.

I have grout filled a few clev. and have had no problem with cooling so long as you have a good radiator and depending on the hieght of the grout also run an oil cooler, have the block acid bathed and crack tested (to look for split bores) then i will fit the welch plugs and fill up to the bottom of the water passages from the water pump (once done dont remove welch plugs, these will have grout behind them) then have the rest of your machine work done..........as for 4bolt mains I have only ever used 2bolt and have had non fail , XD on gas 10.2sec 132mph, 408 clev TD corty 9.96 sec 136mph N/A
