I�ve pulled a number of Ford V8s (with trans attached) and have always had trouble determining the best place to attach the chains to the motor.

I know this may sound very basic, but I suppose it�s one of those things that some of you guys may just take for granted.

Also, are chains the best (or only) option ?

Seat belts are another option

A few spots to consider depending on application.

Inlet Manifold Bolts
Cylinder Head (front and rear depending on which side)
Cylinder Head Bolts
Exhaust Manifold Bolts
Bellhousing Bolts

And yes chains are usually used, unless you use straps or as suggested, seat belts, etc.

Basically wherever the best position is to balance the combo.

Chains are best in my view. If it is just the motor coming out a plate with an eyelett welded to it fitted snug to the inlet manifold where the carby mounts works good. Otherwise chains to exhaust manifold bolts.

All the the previous i used the alternator hole at the front of head, and the earth hole at the back of the passenger head and a chain. I finially tried the carby mount with the eye hook and it worked the best. No mucking around. Just rip it out or whack it in.

I use a chain at the front and rear of the heads.
I used to use the exhuast bolts.. until I broke one once.

This is how we did it.
Might have overdone it a bit, but it did the job.
All chain parts from your local hardware store and 1/2" UNC bolts and washers from your local auto store.
