hey all

i am extreamly new to the forum and from some of the reading ive done you guys all seem very switched on. i need some help in determining what the hell i have in a 1968 xt van i bought.

i have found out the motor is a clevo but 302 or 351 i dont know till i have m,easured the stroke. would it also be safe to asume that it is a c4 auto?
i would not have a clue on how big the diff is or if it is an lsd or not.

could you please help me out as i really dont know where to start.

well if its the original motor then its a 302 as the XT doesnt have a 351.

the motor isn't an original xt motor, it is actually out of a mid 73 xb i think thats why i know itsd a clevo

i there any way you can tell a 302 from a 351 by engine number ?
do you have any sugestions on what sort of diff it would be?

You must be very new to the FORD game if you cant tell the "difference" between a
8 or 9 inch and a std diff, Anyway if youve got a std one itll have a plate bolted on the back, and a 8or 9 inch looks like a "bango" and the diff centre is bolted in the front. And a clue to whether its a 351 or 302 maybe the intake manifold if its std 351 itl have a 4 barrel (carby) and if its a 302 it (Mite) have a 2 barrell,allthough a lot of 302`s have been changed to 4 barrels, The only way to find out for sure is to measure or remove the sump and LOOK good luck Baz

oh yeah jack up the rear and spin it if the other one spins the same way then bingo youv got a LSD. or just jack up 1 wheel and if you cant spin it you might have one.

yeah i am kinda new but am really looking to learn
i am planning to do it up as just a nice old beach cruizer and i dont really have much of a clue on what ive got let alone where i am goin to any help and suggestions a re much appriciated.

Im also planning to measure the troke on the weekend.
i have just had my first go at replacing all the gaskets in a powetr steering pump over the last weekend.
i am slowly learning, i was just wanting to do all the work myself (or as much as i have the capacity to do)
i will probably become a regular on here asking really obvious question but hey isn't that how we all learnt.
