Re: Old Cleveland engine

That's about it. In subsections for camshaft there is lifters. If yours is working fine? Don't touch it. If it needs replacing? You'll need new ones with the new camshaft.

They're a basic engine. If maintained, generally nothing goes wrong.

A mate and I checked over his 265,000k old 302C. Once we had all the data we compared it to the manual and it was all spot on. Compression was 155psi which is pretty good for an engine that was built in 1974. How do we know it was built then? From the date stamped on the bearings we changed. If I remember right? It was May 74.

What do you want from this car?
If its just some street driving, a basic freshen up like brenx said will be fine, oviously with the things that go with a re-ring, like gasket set, timing chain, hone the block for the new rings etc.
If you are going to rev it and give it a hard time, you will need to look into good valves and springs and spruce the heads up a bit.
What is your intended application?

Well you better not leave it stock, I'd say you'd be the one left with a red face, stock 351's with bad gearing are not real quick.
