When I rev the hell out of the clevo the makes a rattle banging noise, could this be valve bounce and or piston slapping the valves? If so how would you identify without pulling the heads off? It had 0.100" valve to piston clearance on assembly. The engine otherwise is knock free. I dont know what the revs are as my tacho is faulty.

It'll be valve bounce more than likely. What rpm are you getting to?

Probably not yet! But you need you ease up otherwise something could let go!! (shearing a valve tip and having it drop into a cyclinder at full song...ouch). What sort of valve train are you running?.........retainers/locks/valves etc. How big's your cam?

Get you tacho fixed...........check your wiring. You'll then be able to see at what rpm the valve bounce starts so you can limit yourself.

i had a friend who had an fj holden with a blown 350 chev and he over revved it......the car never seen the road agin

Thats why an electronic rev limiter is such a good insurance mod. Especially on an expensive engine.

i agree with the rev limiter option, the amount of guys i've heard of who have just built a big dollar engine with plenty of go fast bits take it out and on their first weekend go and neutralise the auto or miss a gear, tap the 8000 mark on their tacho and then be left having to do all the work again

ROFL. I am a good example of this. I just had an over rev today thats going to cost me about $1000. It would cost less but I am going to make it a tad more bullet proof. A rev limiters on the cars too as I don't want to hurt the new engine. The 351's a toy.

My parts list consists of:

2 * valves (inlet)
2 * guides (inlet)
16 * springs Isky 8005a's
16 * retainers
32 * collets single groove
2->16 teflon valvestem seals
1 * CHI manifold (I figure I may as well do this while I am there)
1 * rev limit system

The rev limit system and CHI manifold aren't inc in the $1000. Thank crist I have forged pistons! They are unharmed and the heads didn't get hurt apart from the guides. I guess I won't be racing next Friday

Reiterate the word "insurance" again!!! That could have been REAL bad! Lucky bugger!

You could always run it as a V6 on Friday?
