ive a 351 with 302 heads on straight gas when the motor is at half temp it starts pinging when i plant me foot, before that its all fine just wondering what might be causing it any thoughts?? motors pretty standard except for a bigger cam and heads ofcoarse
Gas requires the dissy to be recurved so that all advance is in before 2600, because gas burns slower then petrol.
Make sure the sparky who does it is familiar with gas curves.
I notice that you also live in Perth. I got Schultz Auto Electrics in Willeton to do mine.
I had the same problem. This fixed it up and also made a real performance difference.
I have the same set up as you by the sounds of it 351, 302 heads crow lpg cam redline inlet manifold and headers. Similar. Firstly fit NGK BP7fs plugs which are the coldest of the group 1 plug range. Next get rid os your distributor vacum advanvce and recomend you have the curve reduced to 15 degrees. This can be done by an auto electrition for around $100.00 if you take the distributor into them. When you have got the distibutor fixed set the timming so that it reaches a peak advance of 29 degrees at 3500-4500 rpm this will give you an idle setting of 14 degrees. Before I put a reco set of heads on my car I had to run group 2 plugs to stop pinging that were colder than the BP7fs, so ? are the heads you fitted good and are you using high performance valve springs the standard items are not good. I hope this helps.
