Yes, But Not Because Of The Roller Cam...

Because Of Revs...

Yes, but with a solid roller cam, not with a hydraulic roller cam.

Re: Restricter Kit with Roller cam

I didnt use a restricter kit with my first solid roller engine, didnt know that you were required to do so, I assumed that the lack of restricter would have caused issues with bottom end lubrication, but we have since stripped it down for the new build and all bearings including cam bearings were like brand new my mechanic said good enough to be used again ???. In saying that though we will be running a restricter kit on the new engine.

Re: Restricter Kit with Roller cam

Correct me if im wrong here but restrictor kits were first used or invented to combat sustained (hrs at a time) high rev damage in NASCAR type applications where the oil burn't or over heated at the mains due to over supply to the top-end or grabbing air due to low sump capacity?
In Drag 1/4 mile type applications i doubt they'd be any where near as necessary seeing there is VERY limited sustained high revs or over heating of the engine oil?
Im not saying you shouldn't use a restrictor kit as a safety measure but has anyone seen a failure directly caused by a lack of oil restriction to the bottom end where a large sump was fitted and the engine used for drags?

It is basically to keep more engine oil at the crank area rather than flooding the rocker gear and cam bearings with unnecessary oil.

yep! i understand its function, i guess im asking what applications its necessary for (if not all) and if people have seen failure without it.

im guessing higher RPM requires better oiling at the fast speed bits like crank and rods, cant hurt to get more oil to the bearings.
