Running only Headers

I finally got my 4 into 1's back from the jet coating place... I thought I'd save myself a couple of hundred dollars by removing the old system and fitting the new headers myself.

Apart from the noise on the street is there any reason not to drive the car to the exhaust place to have the balance of the system fitted ? Will this cause any problems ? Its a 30km trip.

Re: Running only Headers

30km is a long way to drive a car that'll sound like a nascar on the streets...

it'll be loud as all hell.. but you wont hurt anything :)

Troubles only if the exaust gas burns something on the underbody. If there is anything in the way of the flow, get someone to make some nice little turn down dumpi extensions to bolt onto the flanges so it points towards the ground. It should sound nice

Re: Running only Headers

In an XB there should be plenty of room for the exhaust gases to escape without harming anything. The collectors should go beyond the trans crossmember. After that, there is nothing but floorpan.

Re: Running only Headers

Should be a fun 30klm, especially when you arrive followed by more cops than the Blues brothers.

Re: Running only Headers

Imagine trying to explain this to the EPA road-side testers! It would blow the arse right out of their decibel meters.

Re: Running only Headers

I'd bolt up the middle section. At least you'd have mufflers.

Re: Running only Headers

The new outlets are 3" and the old ones are 2.5" I can't bolt them up without making up an adaptor of some type. Maybe I should pay the $100 for a tilt tray, I'm still $100 infront.
