Went to change the oil & filter but the reputable Ryco was firm to screw on and got tighter the further it went on. Was well short of seating when I decided to take it back off to check the thread in the filter. Had not been cross threaded. Old filter went back on without any resistance.
Took the new one back to the retailer who pointed out they are now made in China. Replacement Ryco was gave exactly the same problem as the 1st. Visually it appeared to have a tapered thread compared to the old one which was made in Australia.
had to settle for a "Valvoline" filter (also made in China) to get the car off the ramps and back in the garage as there is not much open at 4.30pm on a sunday. It screwed on freely.
In future I will be buying genuine Ford as long as they are made here.
I am sure that if I forced the new Ryco on it would have buggered the thread on the block. Would Ryco be replacing the block and paying for the rebuild - I don't think so! Will be complaining direct to Ryco tommorrow. At least they will know why their Z9 sales have ground to a halt.
the farmers have dozed all the fruit trees, left the crop padocks to the weeds ,stopped breeding animals, because we buy crap food in packets from overseas and import diseased fruit and meat.
the entire manufacturing industry has closed down because it just cant compete , there is no such thing as quality any more , buy it today, it breaks this afternoon and you buy another one tomorrow.
the only job you can get is serving coffee to the rich importers while they sit back and collect the money.
the experts say that australia will be a country dependent on service industries .
but who is going to have the money to pay for these services.
the gap between the haves and the have nots is growing faster than ever .
johny eyebrows says not to worry about the next 12000 jobs going from telsta." the economy is good , that is all that matters"
it has to end sometime and when it does its going to hurt.
I have heard that Mobil 1 filters are the best for filtering, but no good for high oil pressure at start up? Have also heard good things about Purolator filters. Do Amsoil make filters? I know they make good oil.
Spoke to Customer Service at Ryco who put me thru to engineer "Laurie". He wants my retailer to return the crook filters to them for warranty claim so they can inspect.
He says a blunt tap probably caused the problem and that this had even happened to them when manufacturing here in Oz.
Told him to tell management they had burned me. I thought I was buying quality but it turns out I am paying same price of $10.95 as before for inferior quality when I can buy Chinese made filter for $5.99 elsewhere. No more Ryco's for me.
Will get K & N or similiar even if it costs double.
If you have some spare cash to invest buy some shares in shipping. Your right, soon everything here will be imported. We'l just keep sending the raw materials O'seas so they can value add & sell it back to us.
That SUCKS about the RYCO. We used to buy them buy the tray when we had Taxis. I was buying mine (Motocraft) from City Ford for a while for $5.95. Probably gone up a bit since then. I think I have a Repco one at the moment. Don't change it too often these days but should do soon.
Went to Ford spare parts today & bought a Motorcraft filter. They are made in Thailand. Parts guy said they had some crook ones when they were made by Ryco in Australia
New ones retail for $13 but he said he can do for $6 so they must have plenty of margin in em
Anyone seen the Mobil1 filters? I've read that these have the best flow and filtering quality of all the makes and were developed to last heaps longer to match the extended servicing periods some new manufacturers are going to with synthetic oils(10-15000K's before oil changes!).
From the reports I've read in US forums they are the Ducks-nuts and I want to try one but no-one has heared of them.

You may as well just try one. I can't see it being any worse than some of the crap around at the moment. By the way, 10-15000K's is about the norm for oil changes for new cars these days, even with dino oil. Personally i would change it more often than that though, unless it was a Hyundai or somethingriest: .
If you're lucky enough to live in NZ, the Warehouse sell Group 7 filters for $9.99. If you check the fine print on the box, you'll find that these are made by Purolater in the good ol' USA. I've been using these for 3 years now since I found out that Fram filters are a POS.
I use Motorcraft in my XR6 for warranty reasons but get ripped off by my dealer - $17 each.
Gave up on Ryco years ago after some bad experiences with their anti-drain valves.
put a ryco on my girlfreinds clevo a while back,,few days after she said engine had a bad knock above 1500 rpm like big end bearing was rooted,,thought it was buggered removed sump with engine in car,,removed all big end bearings and they were fine,,checked mains as good as i could still ok,,put back together still noisy,, replaced ryco z9 filter noise GONE.. ARRRR you peice of crap
Z9=trouble
I sell the AC Delco range of filters, and they are very well priced, around the $10 mark retail, and less to the trade.
They have more paper than the old style ryco's, repco and wesfil/cooper filters, and smaller micron count.
I also sell genuine holden filters, and they have fixed many instances of "ryco rattle", which is a lack of oil on start up on Holden straight 6's.
There are good filters for the money, not all $6 filters need to be chaep and nasty....
I had a bit of a win today. On Sat I went to local Auto Pro store to buy a Purolator oil filter after reading about them in some ford mags. I had some Ryco filters that wouldn't screw on to the Clevo and found everything in made in Asia now except these Purolators which are USA.
There are actually two types of Purolator filter. The std one retails for $7 but the Pure One retails for $18. The Pure One filter ranked best in SAE tests and features micronic filtration, silicone anti-dreainback valve and PTFE treated sealing gasket with more pleats providing greater filter surface area. See www.pureoil.com
Auto Pro didn't know anything about them and said I must mean Auto One or Auto Barn so I came home and checked the mag. I was right so I emailed AutoPro Head Office and stuck a rocket up them and rangthe distributor for Purolator which is Gabriel Shocks and told them the story. Gabriel then get up Auto Pro. Later an Auto Pro sales rep/manager rings me and arranges to drop off 3 Pure One filters for me for the Clevo & T3 at my local parts store for nothing. $54 worth gratus. So that was nice!
I just went to buy some K&N filters then.. I got a local price of $18, but when i looked at them, the bottom is all dirty. They come with no clear cover so i looked inside. On all 3 filters they had in stock, all 3 had small metal shaving in the thread area
has anyone seen this before?
the shop did mention the supplu price had just dropped alot and they might now be made in thaiwan

Mate,
I just checked the Z9's (Purolator part #30001) that were given to me and although there is no plastic cover they are pristine clean with nice thread. I have used a Z89A on my T3 and it screwed on beautifully. Oil pressure is exactly where it should be and the oil is staying cleaner longer.
Find a parts shop that sells Purolator (if they deal with National Parts as a supplier they will have them or be able to get them)
To boot they are painted similiar to Clevo blue and have the Made in USA sticker on the side. Special treatment in the seal makes them easy to get off too when its time for a change
Couldn't agree more with you on this 1 croc. I mean my engine owes me 9k which is small change compared to some of my mates engines and even members engines on this forum. I use FRAM myself but in the scheme of things even if they were say $35 I'd still buy them not because they might be the most expensive but for peace of mind.
