hey guys
having a new short 351 motor rebuilt at the moment i am going to fit heads on myself as ive got two recon heads ready to go.

the head have only had a light skim and the block will be decked. am i going to need different length pushrods or have to shim the rockers up to allow for the machining?

running standard hydralic lifters with a mild cam.

There is every chance 61sg. You will need to assemble it and check. You may be lucky.
I run the shims and have had no trouble. I had to run varying thicknesses as my valves installed height is not uniform

Just wait till your motor is done, and bolt on the rockers and see what preload you have. If you have too much, and depending on how much was taken off heads/block, you may need a 40 thou shim or so to get correct.
Dont buy pushrods yet, but check first.

Shims are cheap so don't get worried about it. What sort of rockers are you running?

just running standard ford rockers. how do i test preload?

I wouldnt stress too much, ive changed cams plenty of times with the std Ford rocker gear and i just bolt the rockers back up with the std push rods, no shims needed, the motors ran fine.
