I am building up a V8 to put in to my 78 XC Falcon. It will be able to run on Unleaded fuel. One exhaust shop I was getting quotes from raised the question, "do you want a cat put on?"

Now I know that they didn't come out with them but would this be a case of one more thing you can do to keep the Transport dept, Main Roads, Police, people who give RW's and the person that will be doing the mode plate happy? If this is one little thing that appers to them that I have taken every measure to do the right thing then I would happily go out and fit one, but if you just dont need it and they wouldn't appreciate it then I'll leave it off.

you do not need to put a cat on a XC to run unleaded.. in fact it will probably hurt performance and even if it didn't would be an un necessary expense

i agree no need inless your a greeny when i bought the xf got a 85 instead of a 87 because didnt want to run cats
1st reason cost,
2nd loss of power only minimal loss with cats but every hp counts.

As everyone has said, definately not needed for regs, and it will hurt performance slightly anyway.
