So much money, so little ideas

Hi Everyone,

I just scored my cousins XD Fairlane in exchange for a BBQ (what a trade), and although the car is stuffed, the 302 is in great condition.

I'm going to put it in my XY (along with the C10 and brakes), and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on the best, most cost effective mods for the old donk. I still want it as a daily driver, so nothing too crazy, but it would be nice to see 200kw out of the old girl.

Also, if anyone lives in Melbourne and knows of a good place to get some/most of the work done, that would be helpfull.

If you in the south east? Hallam Performance will get your engine to 200rwkw. In all honestly getting 200rwkw from a 302 and being mild really shouldn't be in the same sentence. Realistically I'd expect 160-180rwkw and kept very mild but would still require a 2200-2500rpm histall and minimum 3.23 gears. 3.5's are a nice all round ratio. Easy to get them for a borg warner diff too. I may know of where there is a borg warner 3.5 diff forsale if the owner wants to part with it? It's still in use and in the Melb area.

Basically you'll need a cam/valve springs/tidy up on the exhaust/min 2 1/4" dual system/extractors/edelbroke performer manifold wouldn't hurt but its not much better than a stock one.

If you want more thats when you start porting and changing valves etc.

first thing i would do is put a 351 crank in it best power per dollar thing you could do did u want 200kw at the weels or motor bit of difference 200 kw is piss simple put a cam , extractors and exaust system single 2.5 would be big enough standard valve train should be ok up 2 bout 5500 i have a 2000 stall 4 a c10 if ur interested its dominator

3.23 are easy 2 get for the borg warner cos the the standard diff gears for xe 3.3L so u should be able 2 pick up a set easy

worked xe 351,
9.5s on 1/8 mile with bald tires and no converter, smoking the rears the whole way
