Im putting my stopgap engine together its a F246 with crane golds. to run in the cam ive got valvoline running in oil as its SF type and only 30wt but what should the cold lash be set at? I cant remember from the last time I had to do it 11yrs ago and cant afford to lose a lobe or two!

I believe 22 thou would be ok, that's what i had my old f246 at.

was that cold? ill run it at 20 hot to keep it a bit quieter but I cant remember how much pushrods grow.

I'm pretty sure the factory spec is 25thou. Running it tights not a bad thing.

[edit] Just looked it up on Cranecams.com and it's 26thou. Thats hot figures of course

yeah its 26thou on cam sheet but I know my old donk at 26 sent me mad with the rattle.

It should go the other way when everything expands. Gap should get smaller.

My cam's supposed to be 25thou and I adjust it to a tight 24thou. Keeps it a tad quieter.

Depending of how far you close it up? It'll only affect the idle (sometimes smoothes it) and the power range. It can sometimes be an advantage to run the lash tighter.

Std is 26 thou so try 20 thou.

Opened up 2Vs to 64cc so about 10.5-1 weiand xcelerator 750dp polished and peened rods hoping for uppermid 400s

Notice that tight lash makes a fair bit of difference to the way the motor reads the cam.

Mine goes from smooth idle to very rough just from a 26" to 22" change in lash..
