it all comes down to money
offset grinding to 3.7 stroke 5.7 chev rods & pistons to suit is about the cheapest but the rod ratio is not fantastic & not great for high revving engines, were as 408 with 4.0 stroke & 6.0 or 6.125 rods has a better rod ratio for high revving but pistons pin sits under oil ring & have heard of problems with oil consumptionthere earlier on in
production,
the higher rod ratio the the better revving with matching components , piston speed slower in top of stroke to aid in combustion,( ie 351c with 302 rods = aprox 1.7 rr)
(std 351with 5.778 rod = 1.65rr)
(377=3.7 stroke with 5.7 rod=1.54rr) faster piston speeds
