I have just noticed that my timing tape has gone from my ross balancer. Is there any way of doing total timing now its gone.

Do you mean to say that a Ross balancer only has the timing marks on a bit of stick on tape?

Yes sure has. It would of been good if marks were printed into actual balancer like the standard ones have. Pretty poor of ross i think. Now i need to find my total timing when i go to the drags but without the marks on balancer dont know what to do.

you can but different lenght tapes for different diameter balancers or use a timing light where you can wind back the dial on the back of the timing light to read the (total) timing on the TDC mark of the balancer.

Yeah but how do u know where the top dead centre mark is on the balancer. It hasnt got 1. It only had tape on it.

it should have a notch or grove of some sort for TDC, if not you will have to find true TDC on no1 cyl its easy if you have a dial indicator with a magnetic base and once you find TDC on the compression stroke (both valves closed) mark your balancer for TDC

Or you could buy a new balancer and jam the old one up someones a%^& at Ross.

I can't believe that they make/sell a part that spins to 7000rpm or so with critical markings on it which are stuck on tape and by virtue of centrifical force the tape will be always trying to depart company!

I am in the market for a high quality balancer but I wont even be considering a Ross if they all have tape markings
